I wanted to write about a few things I've discovered along the way as a photographer. And not just a wedding or lifestyle photographer either, but rather as a general lover of the medium on the whole. That said, I will include things that relate to or might help you benefit when it comes to the wedding industry, but as a general rule of thumb, this blog is a "for photographers, amateur or professional notwithstanding."
Yay, you're engaged! The ring is so beautiful and sparkly and you get to marry the love of your life! You make the decision together to start planning ASAP, and you both sit down to brainstorm, maybe run to the local Barnes & Noble to scoop up a few bridal magazines showcasing the latest and greatest in the wedding industry. Hell, you might even go so far as to buy or make a binder to organize yourself (type A personalities rejoice!). But then the inevitable happens: you actually have to start planning.
I'm going back to the beginning of 2014 for this beautiful engagement session, where I spent a late afternoon with two of the sweetest – and funniest – people, Cindy & Jay. A brief history: I've known Cindy since I was in grade school and long long long ago were besties, like, thick-as-thieves besties! And though time has taken us away from that level of bffitude™, it hasn't diminished my affections for her as person, or as a friend. She's my buddy for as long as I'm here and that's that.
I spent one of the best evenings of my career at Marsh Creek Lake with Martha & Daniel. & I know, it must seem like I say that a lot or in every one of my blog posts, but here's a thing: it's true! Every session is different, but every time I get to enjoy an hour or two with a new couple, I end up walking away with two new friends.
On September 26th, 2015, at the Spring Mill Country Club, I watched my cousin marry her very best friend; on a fine Saturday afternoon, Erika & Daniel became Mr & Mrs Gwynn. It was a serene day – from sunny, temperate weather that brought fluffy clouds and the right amount of sunshine, to the relaxed, chill vibes in the bridal suite, it was what one might call 'a very good day.'
It's no accident that this blog is going live at the moment it's going live. You see, I wanted to revisit this day for a very special reason: Erika & Daniel are set to have their daughter in a just a short couple of weeks, which in and of itself is about the most exciting thing to see happen to people and members of your family! I'm sending healthy, positive vibes your way and of course, all the congratulations! And sleep. Always send sleep to new parents.
